Program Management

Project and Program Management have weaved through my entire career. Starting in Navy programs at NAVSEA (Naval Sea Systems Command) through multiple construction and technical build-outs with NBC Universal, I have honed my PM skill set and developed dozens of PMs in my career. Being a highly-skilled Project Manager prepared me for for success as an Executive with NBCU by allowing me to focus on goals and requirements, key performance indicators, metrics, and resource/cost management. I'm proud to have built amazing teams at every level of my career, managing upwards of 75 FTEs directly. One of the biggest rewards of my career has been to develop talented individuals into managers and executives. It helped me to hone my own skills and to build a network or highly-motivated individuals I could count on when new projects or challenges presented themselves.

Strategic Planning

As I moved through my career I was lucky to have mentors who taught me how to assess problems, identify opportunities, and develop a strategy to address each requirement in a cost-effective way. My MBA taught me a formalized approach to strategy development, leveraging problem analysis and option evaluation as well as financial and operational planning. I've been able to put my practical work experience and school-learned knowledge to the test for 9 TV stations in various markets with diverse opportunities for the past 5 years.

System Development

I learned the basics of software and system development while creating a licensing application for the Treasury Department and content management applications for the Maritime Administration and the National Geo-Spatial Intelligence Agency. I was able to sharpen those skills when I arrived at NBCU and began managing large-scale system integrations. At NBC I developed multiple integrations for business critical and viewer facing applications. Integrating content management solutions and on-air systems allowed me to play an integral role in NBCU's roll-out of TV Everywhere, streaming live TV to any device and creating a new revenue opportunity. I was also in charge of the Telemundo Las Vegas project, the first "Production Cloud" station in the world! My team integrated cutting-edge technologies to form an isolated technical core in Dallas while the station operated "normally" in Las Vegas, a model for all future station builds.

Financial Management

In my last year at NBCU I was responsible for 9 stations, $96M in revenue, and $25M in capital under my supervision. My career started as a Systems Analyst for the US Navy. That role required significant training in Government accounting and contracts. I took a more technical track after that job, but always held onto a component of financial management. My success and promotion at NBCU was in part due to my ability to understand financial planning and analysis as well as nuts and bolts accounting. My time at the USC Marshall School of Business rounded out and formalized my financial skills. By demonstrating proficiency in both the technical and financial aspects of large-scale and expensive projects, I established a foundation of trust needed for approval of many future projects. My reputation for being on-budget and schooled in finance facilitated larger projects and more funding.
